Strategic Orchestration: Contrasting Portfolio Strategy in Biotech and Big Pharma
Presenter: Deepak Veeraraghavan, Partner
Date & Time: Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 09:00
Description:
Emerging biotechs and large pharmaceutical companies face the same core challenge—balancing near-term performance with long-term value creation—though the dynamics differ. Biotechs must maximize a limited set of assets while funding growth; big pharma must do so across larger, more complex, and more diversified portfolios. Yet both often struggle with fragmented decision-making, misaligned incentives, and governance that prioritizes individual assets over enterprise value.
This session contrasts portfolio strategy across biotech and big pharma, highlighting what each can learn from the other. Biotechs bring focus and speed; large organizations offer scale and rigor. Both fall into predictable traps: reactive short-termism on one side, slow and siloed complexity on the other.
We introduce a Decision Science–driven approach to enable objective, cross-functional decisions across R&D, Commercial, and Business Development. Attendees will gain practical frameworks for defining enterprise value, evaluating trade-offs, prioritizing where to invest the next marginal dollar, and designing governance that drives better outcomes regardless of organizational size.
