Situation

A large global pharmaceutical company identified the need to upskill its research scientists on several priority project management competencies. Specifically, the goal was to help scientists better manage competing priorities, define responsibilities and team accountability, navigate the organization and manage stakeholders, and establish ways of working with cross-functional partners.

Action

By leveraging our Salience Learning team, we designed a Project Management Learning Pathway consisting of 6 core modules. For each module, we defined targeted lessons, learning objectives, and modalities to create a personalized experience tailored to the research organization. Each module included spaced-learning solutions including virtual workshops, digital courses, instructional videos, and resource guides that were delivered to the client as a “curriculum-in-a-box” solution to support successful deployment.  This included an implementation guide, facilitator guidance for workshops, and a package of digital courses and videos to be housed and accessed through the learning management system (LMS). Our team also conducted train-the-trainer sessions for each workshop to enable successful delivery in the US and globally.

Results

The client received a dynamic learning curriculum that was tailored to the needs of the research organization. The curriculum enabled research scientists to easily integrate their learning into daily routine without sacrificing time for scientific work. The learners used fundamental project management principles that drove collaboration, innovation, and their ability to execute.
