Situation
A large pharmaceutical company needed to develop, refine, and roll out new and improved ways of working for its Clinical Operations team. This initiative was part of larger, ongoing internal transformation.
Actions
Our team’s approach involved three primary phases. In phase 1, we helped the client define new ways of working. To do this, we captured and documented the team’s current state, then helped define the ideal future state. Working with the client team, we then outlined new processes and ways of working, defined a maturity model, and set up work teams to begin delivering progress against the model. In phase 2, we refined the new ways of working by establishing small “squads” to implement them in practice and pressure test them. Finally, in phase 3, we developed and implemented a rollout plan to propagate the new ways of working across the full clinical operations organization.
Results
Over a two-year period, the Clinical Operations function transformed its organization, ways of working, and mindset, enabling it to more effectively deliver on the broader organization’s strategic imperatives.
