FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, CA – March 19, 2018 – Blue Matter is pleased to announce two key promotions: George Schmidt to Managing Partner and Tom Quirk to Partner. Both are leaders in Blue Matter’s European operation, and have been instrumental in expanding the firm’s presence there.
George Schmidt joined Blue Matter in mid-2015 to launch the company’s physical presence in Europe. Prior to George’s tenure, Blue Matter served its European clients from offices in the United States. George established the firm’s office in London and began building a European team throughout the region. Blue Matter’s European operation has grown to include a robust team across offices in London, Zurich, and Berlin.
Due to the team’s exceptional work, the firm’s European revenue has doubled in the past year alone, with significant growth expected for 2018. As Managing Partner, George will be accountable for continued growth in the region.
George has also played key roles in developing new capabilities for Blue Matter and its clients, including innovative approaches to organizational transformation and change management. In addition, he is currently working on a range of offerings to help biopharmaceutical companies from around the globe effectively enter the European market.
Blue Matter co-founder and Managing Partner, Ashwin Dandekar said, “George has been critical to our expansion in Europe. I’ve known George for more than a decade, and he is one of the most reliable, trustworthy people I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside. Whether he’s working on a project for a client or building a new business line, you just know George will always get it right. His promotion is well deserved.”
George has 16 years consulting experience in the life sciences. Prior to that, he was a Captain in the US Army. George has an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and two BS degrees from Carnegie Mellon University.
Tom Quirk joined Blue Matter as a Principal in 2016. Based in Zurich, Tom has played a key role in Blue Matter’s European expansion. In his new role, Tom will report to George Schmidt regarding day-to-day operations and client work, co-leading the firm’s continued growth throughout Europe. When it comes to developing innovative capabilities and new service lines, Tom will report to Ashwin Dandekar.
According to Dandekar, “Tom’s performance has been nothing short of excellent. Obviously, he’s very smart, but he excels because he truly cares about every team member, every client, and every project. He’s not a person who just ‘checks boxes’ to get stuff done, he totally immerses himself and that endears him to the Blue Matter team and to our clients.”
Tom has been consulting to life sciences companies for the past 11 years. He has a Masters of Bioscience from the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences and a dual BS/BA from Marquette University.
When asked about his and Tom’s promotions, George Schmidt said, “Working with this team in Europe has been an extremely rewarding experience for Tom and me both. This team is phenomenal. We appreciate this opportunity, and we’re very excited about helping Blue Matter grow even further in 2018 and beyond.”
