Situation
A top-tier global pharmaceutical company needed to develop a cross-functional process for medical planning that was truly proactive and strategic, rather than the siloed, rote approach that it had historically used.
Action
Our team began by establishing a clear process with a single framework to foster consistency across assets. We outlined the Medical Plan building blocks and respective working sessions. In addition, we defined the collaboration approaches with commercial and other functions for medical planning, as well as defined the review, approval, and endorsement procedures. To support the process, we created a range of materials, including a medical planning playbook, planning templates, and virtual “workshops in a box” for use in planning sessions. Finally, we developed and hosted a series of training modules to ensure that all team members were ready to use the new process and tools.
Results
The new process created a standardized approach across the client’s portfolio of products, which continued to be used annually. It facilitated cross-functional collaboration and stimulated strategic thinking in lieu of “rinse-and-repeat” planning.
