Situation

A mid-size pharmaceutical company had commenced a program to redefine their drug development approach to ensure differentiation and decreased time to market. They needed help in embedding the changes in 14 pre-defined areas across all functions.

Action

Our first step was to assess the level of readiness for change within the organization. This involved working with key stakeholder groups and change leaders. We also developed, refined, and aligned on the definition of success and metrics. The next major phase was to develop the change management approach. This involved building an engagement plan for key stakeholder groups to ensure broad engagement at all levels. We included detailed communications and a training plan. As a part of this phase, we defined change metrics for buy-in, rollout, adoption, and sustainability. We also created a set of methods and tools for capturing and reporting progress. This final phase involved implementing and monitoring the change management program. We were deeply involved in the rollout and supported it along the way by creating progress reports, gathering feedback, and incorporating it into the program.

Results

The client was able to achieve adoption of changes in all 14 areas across all teams, including drug development teams who were resisting change beforehand.
